Don’t Flush Your Cash: Conserving Tips for Your Bathroom

Sounds gross, I know! I sometimes wonder how we come across these topics.
However, the topic shouldn’t be flushed away. Going green takes time–everyone and everything wants to be “green”–but, if you can see a difference in your energy and consumption costs from it, why not give it a whirl (yes..we’re saving even down to the toilet)?
Believe it or not, most of household water usage comes from the “crapper.” The toilet uses more water than any other home appliance! We don’t waste water in the tub/shower or while washing the dishes–why should the toilet be any different?
Here’s 3 ways we can give a little to the green scene (and keep a little something in our pockets) by conserving:
- If you live in an older pad(older than 1992 to be exact) or you/property haven’t done any renovations to your dwellings within the last 6 years, chances are, your toilet may need a replacement. Sure, it flushes fine, but the cost for a new toilet (most under or around $100) is way more economical than a older, faulty throne that sends consumption costs through the roof.
- Prepare for tip two–Not flushing after going #1!! For example, if you make numerous bathroom trips during the night, it’s more conserving if you wait until the morning to do one big flush than to do so after every trip (please remember we said only after #1). Try this during the day as well, just close the lid (not applicable if you have a lot of guests daily).
- This last tip is what we call “wishful thinking.” For those a little more into “flushing cash,” a dual-flush toilet installation or a green-composting toilet may be the tip to royalty. Sorry, we can’t comment any further on these…we’re just not that “strapped with cash”
The next time you have your daily meeting in the bathroom, think about these tips, or else, you can prepare to flush your money like you do toilet paper!
